Officer Descriptions

PRESIDENT:

This position is an officer of the chapter.  This leadership position must at all times strive to uphold the bylaws of the chapter focus, the mission statement of the chapter, and ensure adherence to the IREM code of ethics.  The person holding this position must be a CPM with demonstrated chapter leadership experience.  The president shall preside at all meetings of this chapter. The president shall perform all duties usually pertaining to such office as may be prescribed by the Executive Council and shall be a member, ex officio, with right to vote, of all committees.  This position reports to the Regional Vice President of Region 4. 

With two other Council Members, Identifies and appoints Vice Presidents and Committee Chairpersons to serve on the Executive Council during their term and assists the Incoming President (along with the IAE) during third quarter to select their incoming council. 

Other duties:

  • Leads planning session with the incoming leadership team to set goals for the coming year.

  • Review IREM Headquarters information and work with IREM Association Executive to disseminate to membership.

  • Conducts a minimum of six executive council meetings.

  • Oversee the Vice Presidents and Committee Chairpersons in carrying out their responsibilities.

  • Works in partnership with the chapter’s Executive Director.  

  • Conducts an annual review on the IAE based on the job description and annual check off list.

  • Attend the next years Leadership & Legislative conference as the Legislative Coordinator, the Regional Conferences. 

  •  If budget allows:  Fall Conference as this is geared towards training the incoming president and IAE to work together.

  • Serves as a member of the Governing Council at national governance meetings.

  • Coordinate and attend Corporate Outreach visits with RVP and/or National Officer on behalf of the chapter.

  • Updates the Bylaws as required and guides the chapter in the formation of its Strategic Plan.

President-Elect

This position is an officer of the chapter.  This leadership position must at all times strive to uphold the bylaws of the chapter, focus on the mission statement of the chapter, and ensure adherence to the IREM code of ethics.  The person holding this position must be a CPM with demonstrated chapter leadership experience. In the absence of the president, the President-Elect shall perform the duties of the president and shall also perform such other duties as the president or Executive Council may prescribe.   It is of significant importance for the President Elect to mentor closely with the President.  The position of President-Elect reports directly to the chapter President.

  • Works closely with the President to achieve the chapter’s annual goals.

  • Serves as a resource to the Committee Chairpersons in carrying out their responsibilities.

  • Attends Annual Fall Conference.

  • Attends a majority of the membership, educational and social meetings.

  • LEGISLATIVE – (President Elect or Current President) tracks legislative and regulatory issues at the local, state and national level which have an impact on the real estate management profession or industry.   Prepares reports on legislative activity for approval by the Council and presentation to the members.  either the president Elect or the Past President will be required to attend the DC Legislative and Leadership Conference and schedule appointments.  Depending on budget, all or some of the expense will be covered by the chapter.

Vice President of Finance

  • The VP of Finance officer shall oversee the financial activities of the Chapter by working with the Association Executive.

  • Review financials (Bank Statements, Accounting Balance Sheet, Reconciliation Report, and Variance Report) / Prior to the Council Meetings prepare the variance explanations and presents an overview to the Council. 

  • Assist in the preparation of the budget.

  • During any Council or Committee meeting, guide other volunteers in financial matters to ensure that the Chapter operates within the budget. 

  • Conduct an annual audit of the Chapter’s financial activities. 

  • The Chapter annual tax return is prepared by a CPA and reviewed/signed by the VP of Finance or Executive Director.

Vice President of Communications

The Vice President of Communications shall keep a record of the proceedings of this chapter and of the Executive Council.  The Vice President of Communications shall give advanced notice of chapter and council meetings, and perform such other duties as the President or Executive Council may prescribe. 

  • Reviews Newsletters, E mail blasts in a timely manner that a committee or Executive Director has developed.

  • Works with the Committee to develop professional, student and academic outreach initiatives.

  • Ensures programs are implemented that publicize the chapter, the Institute and its designations, programs and services.

  • Takes the minutes of the council meetings and submit to the Executive Director to ensure everything is well documented.  Recommended that committees copies their assigned VP and the VP of Communications to assist in efficiency and minute preparations.

  • Assists with reviewing luncheon scripts, power point presentations, and videos that the IAE, PR and Program committee create. 

  • Continues to work with IREM to ensure that the chapter is staying plugged into the latest technological trends, such as Twittering, Facebook, LinkedIn, and You Tube.

  • Writes articles for the Atlanta Business Chronicle, Atlanta Journal, and encourages members to write articles for the JPM Magazine. 

Vice President of Education

The Vice President of Education helps the education committee plan and coordinate Chapter Course offerings and Seminars.

  • This includes coordinating content, speakers, materials, Emcee (if needed), etc.  

  • Assists in the promotion of classes to members & potential members.

  • Ensures the Committee is promoting seminars and national courses six to eight weeks before. 

  • Attends a portion of each national class held locally to help set up, serve food, and host a chapter event to answer questions, promote courses or upcoming events, encourage students and share success story, etc.  

Vice President of Membership

The position of Vice President of Membership reports directly to the chapter President.

  • Assist in the growth of membership with a goal of a 20% increase year over year.

  • Works with the Committee to develop student and academic outreach initiatives.

  • Plans and Participates in college and/or high schools “Career Day” or supports another officer to do this (insuring IREM is properly represented).

  • Insures all CPM’s, ACoM’s, and ARM’s are interviewed timely and assists the chairperson as needed.

  • Conducts membership needs satisfaction survey with assistance from the IAE.

Immediate Past President

This position is an officer of the chapter.  This leadership position must at all times strive to uphold the bylaws of the chapter, focus on the mission statement of the chapter, and ensure adherence to the IREM code of ethics.  The person holding this position must be a CPM with demonstrated chapter leadership experience. 

  • Is available as a resource for the President during the transition period. 

  • Works closely with the Council to achieve the chapter’s annual goals.

  • Serves as a resource to the Committee Chairpersons in carrying out their responsibilities.

  • Attends a majority of the membership, educational and social meetings.

  • LEGISLATIVE – (President Elect or Past President) will be required to attend the Leadership Conference and schedule appointments during the DC visits.  Depending on budget, all or some of the expense will be covered by the chapter.
